This Policy applies to all officers and employees of every Joshin Group company, including directors (including Audit and Supervisory Committee members), executive officers, permanent employees , contract employees, part-time employees, temporary employees , and dispatched employees.
We are committed to respecting human rights through a human-centered approach. AI should be used to support employees in their work and enhance customer service. In all uses of AI, we will respect human dignity and individual autonomy.
We recognize that it is not possible to completely eliminate the biases inherent in AI. However, we will strive to eliminate unfair and harmful biases and discrimination against any individual or group in all areas of our business, including customer service, analyses of purchasing data, and recruitment activities, and to conduct our business in a fair and equitable manner.
We place the highest priority on the safety and peace of mind of our customers, and we are committed to the secure operation of AI with due consideration for all security risks. We will not place undue trust in AI-generated outputs, and we will always incorporate human review and judgments into all critical processes. We will also maintain a framework for continuous monitoring and ongoing improvement to protect customers from unforeseen harm, such as due to the provision of inaccurate information.
As a retailer handling a large volume of customer personal data, we are committed to protecting privacy in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, including in the use of camera footage and biometric authentication technologies in our stores and other facilities. We will also strive to ensure robust information security to protect against cyberattacks and other external threats.
We will strive to ensure the transparency necessary to enable human verification of the grounding behind AI-generated decisions when required, and to ensure that uses of AI remain explainable and verifiable. In addition, when collecting data in stores and other settings, we will make ongoing efforts to help consumers accurately understand our practices, and we will maintain accountability to all stakeholders.
We will comply with all applicable laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines in the development and use of AI. We will also strive to protect the copyrights and intellectual property rights of third parties and ensure that AI is used for appropriate purposes.
We will strive to provide education and training to ensure that all employees involved with AI possess appropriate levels of knowledge, AI literacy, and ethical awareness. We will foster an organizational culture in which everyone from store staff through to headquarters personnel make use of AI in a professional manner, guided by the highest ethical standards.
To implement this Policy, we will establish an AI governance framework composed of relevant departments to carry out continuous monitoring and ongoing improvement.
While appropriately managing the risks inherent in AI, we will continue to pursue cutting-edge innovation with the confidence that we will be able to overcome any setbacks. We will also strive to foster a fair and competitive AI ecosystem that supports sustainable economic growth and contributes to addressing societal challenges.
