What Does Joshin Do?

The Joshin Group operates businesses in five categories: home appliances, entertainment, renovation, mobile communications, and support businesses with a three-part structure through two channels: real stores and the EC (e-commerce) business, along with service infrastructure.

Real Stores

Joshin’s locally focused brick-and-mortar home appliance stores are in the Kansai, Tokai, Kanto, and the Hokushinetsu areas. Joshin stores offer and recommend home appliances for convenience and comfort in daily life, renovation products that make homes more comfortable, and mobile products, including smartphones, to customers. In addition, by situating “KIDS LAND” corners that provide toys and video games inside its stores, Joshin aims to be a favorite store among locals of all ages. Furthermore, each Joshin store is designed to meet local customer needs with the DISC-PIER section, which handles music software , videos, and video games, and the Mother-Pier section, which provides pharmaceuticals and household goods in store. Joshin also operates Super Kids Land, a specialized store for a wide variety of entertainment goods, including plastic models.

Joshin offers customers across Japan a convenient and quick shopping experience through the Internet. Joshin’s online store offers a great variety of approximately 730,000 items (as of FY2023), from home appliances to personal computers, cameras, video games, car and motorcycle accessories, fishing equipment, model trains, toys, music software, videos, DIY tools, wristwatches, sporting goods, pharmaceuticals, furniture, alcohol, food products, and household goods. Numerous product reviews and detailed product descriptions ensure a worry-free online shopping experience for customers. Fan Base Strategy

Creating Joshin fans and core fans by increasing the number of active members

The fan base strategy is the business philosophy Joshin has developed since the Company was founded. Rooted in our corporate credo of “Thoughtfulness” and our management philosophy of “Connecting people and society to the future with a smile,” the fan base strategy means always thinking and acting in consideration of the other party’s perspective. Specifically, with a deep understanding of the expectations of our customers at the pre-purchase, time of purchase, and post-purchase stages, each department implements measures with an awareness of the “fan base” and collaboration among sections as well as maximizing value provision out of each section together constitute what we consider Joshin’s fan base strategy.

     First, it has become increasingly important to have customers become Joshin fans in order to ensure that they choose Joshin from among the many choices available. Customers with the strongest trusting relationships with Joshin will not stop shopping for themselves. They will become true core fans (enthusiastic fans) who send out recommendations to others, leading to a generation of new customers for us. The generation of a chain of “fans” in that way is a major objective of our fan base strategy.

     As part of the fan base strategy, in February 2024, we launched a new customer loyalty program called the “Joshin Smile Program.” With the aim of increasing our active member count (members who used Joshin services in the last year), we strive for growth that strikes a balance between quality and quantity.

     In addition, we hold regular Joshin Fan Meetings and systematically organize a “fan community.” We also hold the Joshin Customer Service Roleplaying Contest targeted at sales personnel at stores, among other initiatives to strengthen the creation of sentimental value. Through these initiatives, Joshin strives to solidify its customer relationships and ensure their everlasting loyalty.

     We aim to have the Joshin Group fan base include not only customers but also employees, business partners, shareholders, investors, and all other stakeholders as fans. For our business partners, we strive to respect one another as we grow our business on a fair and equal footing with one another. By having shareholders and investors shop at our stores with shareholder rewards, we aim to improve performance and achieve dividends that satisfy expectations, boost our stock price, and improve PBR. To that end, we will work to create a virtuous cycle, and through the fan base strategy, Joshin aims to become an attractive company for all stakeholders.

Dominant Strategy

Rather than going after quantitative growth, we are concentrating management resources on areas where we can best utilize our strengths.

The Company has a locally-focused market-dominant strategy. Positioning Kansai, Tokai, Kanto, and Hokushinetsu as priority areas, Joshin aims to expand its market share. Our dominant strategy is reinforcing the sales strength of existing stores, including scrap and build, rather than growth premised on opening new stores and establishing a Joshin commercial zone where we maximize synergies with the EC business and service infrastructure. We aim to raise our market share to a high level in the Kansai area, and by using this high market share in the Kansai area as a foothold, we will pursue the establishment of a Joshin commercial zone in the Kansai, Tokai, Kanto, and Hokushinetsu areas.
