Safety and Security at Stores
The Group is working to create store environments that are safe and comfortable.
One initiative is to make our facilities barrier-free by installing accessible toilets and dedicated parking spaces for wheelchair users, as well as providing wheelchairs available for borrowing by customers at any time. We are also installing diaper-changing facilities and nursing rooms for customers with small children.* In addition, each store is equipped with an automated external defibrillator (AED) in case of emergencies.
To prevent secondary damage from earthquakes or fires, we are implementing a complete changeover from smoke barrier walls made of glass that can be dangerous when broken to sheet-type smoke barrier walls that have a higher safety performance.
Furthermore, under a crisis management system based on the ISO 22301 international standard, we have made it mandatory for all stores to conduct disaster response drills and check their stockpiled disaster supplies twice a year, and we also inspect their disaster prevention equipment once a month. Other initiatives for supporting the safety of local communities include having certain stores designated Tsunami Evacuation Buildings and conducting joint disaster response drills with local residents.
* Installation rates: Accessible toilets: 98.1%; dedicated parking spaces for wheelchair users: 95.2%; wheelchairs available for borrowing by customers: 94.7%; diaper-changing facilities: 97.1%; nursing rooms: 80.6%
